Set in the beautiful Eden valley between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park this old railway pub, has its loyal local trade augmented by visitors to famous Carlisle-Settle Railway's Appleby station, which is next to the pub. A recent gutting and refurbishment has led to a light and airy, modern pub, with children's outdoor play area in the rear garden. It was CAMRA Westmorland pub of the year in 2013 and serves mainly beers from Cumbrian micro breweries with real cider and perry often available.
The pub is a family-owned free house providing well-kept ales and quality accommodation.
