One of the oldest hostelries in Ambleside at the bottom of the infamous Struggle leading up to Kirkstone Pass with a good range of very well kept and served Robinson's ales. An exceptionally high-quality traditional pub with a cosy feel: real fire, bench seating, historical rock-climbing photos decorating the walls. An attractive snug is popular for families with children. All areas are regularly packed with jolly locals and students from the nearby university facility, mingling with visiting walkers and climbers. The Rule has featured in the Guide since 1977 as a local fixture.
